Facts About Soy

Soy wax is made from natural soybeans grown right here in the U.S.A. Purchasing soy candles is an excellent way to support American farmers.

It is a natural non-toxic, biodegradable wax; therefore, it is an excellent choice for those wishing to burn natural, environmentally friendly candles in their home or workplace. Although once fragrance oil or dye is added to soy candles they cannot be defined as completely natural.

Soy wax burns cooler (slower) than paraffin, therefore increasing your burn time. Soy wax has a lower melt point so remember to keep your candles out of the sun and bright light as this may cause your candle to sweat or discolor. If "sweating" occurs", place your candle in the refrigerator and it will quickly return to normal.

Soy wax candles produce very little(if any) soot and smoke. To keep smoke at a minimum, be aware of how you burn your candles. Each time you light your candle, trim the wick down to 1/4-1/2". Do not allow wick trimmings to fall into your wax melt pool and burn the candles in areas free from drafts.

You can burn a candle too long. The maximum recommended burn time is 4 hours per burn. Burning your candle longer may result in an unstable wick that could fall over into the wax melt pool. Once this happens, it is almost impossible to be able to burn your candle again. Burning longer than the recommended time is also dangerous, especially when combined with improper wick trimming. Although we use heat-safe glass, it cannot withstand the high temperature of an excessively deep melt pool and high flame! The glass may crack and spill hot wax onto your furniture or even worse, burn someone.

Soy wax cleans up easily with soap and water, but remember it is still a wax and should not be poured down the drain.

Soy wax candles have a few unique characteristics to them that in no way effect the wonderful way they burn. As well as containing a lead-free wick, your candle will have a creamy, off-white color to it. In keeping with our desire to create as natural a candle as possible, we have chosen not to add artificial color to our wax. There are a few fragrance oils that are a bit darker and will add a pale yellow tint to that particular wax. Your soy wax candle may have a "crusty" appearance on the top of the candle. This creates a rustic look to it, but it in no way effects the way your candle will burn. It is completely normal and again is one of the natural characteristics of soy wax that make it so unique. You may notice some wet looking spots on your candle where the wax has adhered to the surface of the glass. They are caused by temperature variations and are simply due to the expansion and contraction of the wax. You will notice that they change as the candle is burned or when the room conditions change. They in no way affect the quality of the candle. Soy candles are very sensitive to temperature and light so be aware of the location when placing or storing your soy candle. Place your candle away from sunlight, fluorescent lighting and sources of heat. When traveling with your candles, be careful as extremes in temperatures will melt or freeze our great candles. We know that once you see how wonderful soy candles are you'll never want to go back to paraffin again. Enjoy your soy!

Candle Safety & Tips

1. Please remove all wrappings, ribbons and tags before burning your new candle.

2. Candles have a great memory. That's why the first time you burn your new candle is so important. It is recommended that you allow your candle to burn until the melt pool reaches the outer edge of the jar. On an average it takes about 1 hour per inch of the candle's diameter. A complete first burn will allow your candle to have the longest burn life. After the initial burn, allow your candle to burn no more than 4 hours at a time.

3. Don't forget to trim your candlewick to 1/4-1/2" prior to each burn. Keeping your wick trimmed will prevent smoking, soot and high flame. Make sure no trimmings are left in the wax.

4. Keep your candles away from drafts to prevent smoking. Drafts will cause your candles to burn unevenly and may present a fire hazard.

5. Store candles in a cool, dry place to prevent fading and fragrance loss.

6. Always burn candles on a protected, non-flammable, heat resistant surface. Never burn a candle on, in or near anything flammable.

7. Extinguish candles by gently blowing them out or using a candlesnuffer. Do not put the lid back on the jar while burning. Do not use water to put out candles!

8. To prevent heat damage or fire, discontinue the use of your candle when only 1/2" wax remains in the bottom of the jar.

9. Do not move your candle while it is burning or while the wax is still hot. The jars may become hot and you may get burned!(unless soy)

10. Keep burning candles out of reach of children and pets

11. NEVER leave a burning candle unattended!

TIP: If an off center wick is causing your candle to burn unevenly, use a metal spoon to gently push the wick back to the center while the wax is still soft.
